Find Your Purpose

Find Your Purpose

Do What You Love, Love What You Do

What were you put on this earth to do? Once you answer that question, you’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to find your happy zone. If you find you are getting nothing done, you’re spinning your wheels, irritated, frustrated, and stuck…consider whether you are fulfilling your true purpose.

I’ve spent a long time in a state of what I laughingly refer to as “career A.D.D..” In just over fifty years, I have had successful runs as a financial analyst, corporate attorney, an interior designer, an LA County Sheriff, a product spokesperson, and a weight loss coach. Recently, I transitioned full-time to being The Health Coaches’ Coach.

I realized that my true passion is in the nuts and bolts of making ideas work and in helping other people make their passions successful.  Happily, all my years playing musical careers has given me a unique perspective and a wildly diverse basket of skills to share. Now I feel like I am SERIOUSLY helping people, and I feel like I have discovered what I was put on this earth to do.

I think sometimes that being stuck in the wrong career feels like wearing someone else’s shoes. You can kind of make it work. The shoes are serviceable. They keep your feet dry.  But you can’t run, you can’t jump, and you sure as hell can’t dance because the fit’s not right.

Don’t You Want to Dance?

I think for most people, the whole goal in life is to find the happy zone, that place where you’re not just financially prosperous but fulfilled, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.  Spiritually, we want to dance. Often times the physical state of your body will give you a clue as whether you’re doing the right thing. If you are tired, overweight, and out of sorts, you might be on the wrong career path.

What is Your Body Telling You?

Is your cholesterol up? How about your blood pressure?  Is your weight healthy and comfortable to maintain? If the answers to these questions point to an unhealthy body, you might want to consider whether you have found your purpose.

It can be frightening to admit that you aren’t doing what you want to do. I mean law school was a long, arduous, expensive journey. I made a shit-ton of money during those years practicing law but I was miserable. Adjusting your path when you’ve put so much into it can feel impossible but I am living proof that discovering your true purpose will make all the other pieces of your life fall into place. Don’t let the traps of money, prestige, or other people’s expectations keep you where you don’t want to be.

Sometimes, you aren’t even the one who gets to choose your new path. Sometimes your whole life goes haywire. Your relationships, your career, your health…it can all get wildly out of control, seemingly through no fault of your own.

Here’s the secret guys…

…sometimes what you are doing has to end to make room for the next big thing.

When you get hit with an unexpected life whammy because you weren’t looking for signs and adjusting course along the way, consider that the Universe just looked your life over and said, “NOPE. That’s not it.”  Then, not as a punishment, but as a life course correction, the Universe opened you up to possibility.

Wow! It’s terrifying! Losing a job, getting divorced, an illness, or even a death can force you to reevaluate your path. The amazing thing is that out of those catastrophic events, you might just find your true callingyour life’s purpose.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I’m here, doing what I love, because my dad died a preventable and premature death. What began as the worst day of my life has turned into the most rewarding and impactful life that I love.

So today’s message is: listen to your heart and your body and be straight up with yourself.  What’s working? What’s not?

Your happiness is not just your responsibility, it’s your right.

Let’s get in touch with your truths and make sure that you are doing what you were meant to do. Once you’ve figured it out, fun, fulfilment, and a one-way ticket to the happy zone are yours to keep.

You can totally do this. I can help make it happen.
